LuvSide successfully presents his powerful small wind turbine at the New Energy Husum fair.
Husum / Grünwald near Munich, March 25, 2015 – The young company LuvSide GmbH in Grünwald near Munich, has debuted at this year’s New Energy Husum fair presenting its innovative Savonius small wind turbine.
During these four days, around 10.000 visitors were able to see the new products and solutions for renewable energies of nearly 180 exhibitors. LuvSide, which for the first year had its own exhibitor, presented to the audience its innovative vertical rotor design with its characteristic double-helix geometry that provides an increase on the performance of more than 25 percent compared to the other conventional Savonius geometries.
At this year’s 2015 New energy in Husum trade fair, which took place from the 19th to the 22nd of March, LuvSide presented to the visitors its innovative vertical wind turbine on its own stand.
The New Energy Husum fair has exhibitors for decentralized power generation based on renewable energy sources since 2002 and its one of the most important events in this sector.
LuvSide GmbH from southern Germany used the far north Husum platform to present its innovative vertical wind turbine (SWT) to the public. Although conventional vertical Savonius rotors are mostly low maintenance, very quiet and storm proof, they usually have a relatively high weight and a fairly low efficiency. It’s necessary “a strong breeze” to ensure a rewarding electricity production. In order to avoid these serious disadvantages, LuvSide followed a completely new path in the development of its rotor. The innovative concept is based on three pillars.
Although the specially-designed LuvSide geometry follows the classic Savonius principle, it has innovative and patented rotor geometry with two distinctive slats; thanks to intelligent flow control it avoids the annoying turbulences, eliminating weak points in terms of efficiency. The rotor from LuvSide with its characteristic double-helix shape has proven in complex 3D flow analysis from Aerospace Engineering calculations an increasing performance of more than 25 percent compared to the other conventional Savonius geometries.
In order to avoid paying the weight penalty of other vertical rotors, LuvSide has carefully picked ultra-lightweight fiber-reinforced high-performance plastics in the construction of the wings. Thus, LuvSide rotor achieved an enormous weight advantage. The Ultra lightweight construction not only provides benefits in the startup behavior of the rotor on light winds, the material also guarantees a long lasting lifecycle for more than 20 years despite the adverse weather conditions.
The third quality criterion consists on using customized power electronics that have been adapted to the low speed of the German generator. The electronics are integrated directly into the generators base to make a direct load path from the wind turbine to the generator reducing the number of components. The power electronics regulates the optimal interaction between wind power, speed and power loss.
